Busy Bees Quilt Guild Meeting September 8, 2026

Guest Speaker: Kari Hawkins

Program: “Challenge Me” Kari Hawkins is a quilt artist, teacher and writer who is passionate about creating unique and expressive quilts full of color, embellishments and subtle hints of humor. Kari began quilting 37 years ago and was encouraged by her mother-in-law, who was a life-long quilter and charter member of Heritage Quilters of Huntsville, Alabama. Over the years, Kari has served in various volunteer positions with HQH, including president, vice president and quilt show chair. She has won numerous quilting awards in HQH quilt shows and has had her quilts juried in both the American Quilter’s Society quilt contest in Paducah, Kentucky, and the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas. One of her quilts was featured in the spring 2023 issue of McCall’s Quilting. In addition, Kari has coordinated a 55-member quilting group since 2006. Kari retired in 2023 from a 40-year career in journalism and public affairs, ending her career as a public affairs specialist for the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Her husband continues to work as a NASA computer scientist contractor. They have a daughter who is a writer living in Houston with her husband. Their son, a Huntsville Police Officer, recently married a young lady who is a Ukrainian refugee. Kari is a dear friend of Busy Bees member Elida Godsey.
